An Indispensable Tool for Doctors and Healthcare Professionals
There is no doubt that receiving a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder can come as a shock, confirm a person’s fears, and be destabilizing for the entire family. At the moment when the words are first uttered, it may be difficult to grasp what the doctor is saying, and what the words mean. It is often following this visit that people are confronted with a myriad of conflicting emotions, fears and worries, and questions about what to do.
First Link® is a reference protocol for doctors and healthcare professionals working with people with Alzheimer’s or related diseases. It aims to:
- Promote optimum care & support for people with Alzheimer’s or related diseases, as soon as they are diagnosed;
- Effectively meet the needs and expectations of people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families, in terms of the care and assistance we provide.
The First Link® program allows doctors and other health professionals the opportunity to directly link a person with the Alzheimer Society of Montreal, and permits us to make that first step. After giving their consent, a person’s coordinates are sent directly to the Alzheimer Society of Montreal. A counselor from the ASM will send information and follow up with a phone call, as requested on the form.
If you would like additional information about the First Link® program, or to receive a First Link® kit, please do not hesitate to contact us.
