Recognizing our top fundraiser in the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon and 5k!
On Thursday, July 30, Society supporter Delia Visscher visited the Society’s Provincial Office and was awarded with a certificate of recognition.
Delia has been a proud participant of the Alzheimer Society team in the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5k since 2012. Over the past four years she has walked the Half-Marathon portion and has raised over $10,000 for the Society! This year, Delia raised $4,405, making her not only the top fundraiser for the Society, but also the top fundraiser in the 80+ category. She was also in the top 10 overall event fundraisers!
Delia participates in honour of her husband, Jans, who has dementia and currently lives in an assisted-care home. You can hear more of Delia’s story by listening to her on the June 8th Boomer Life episode of CISL (at the 44 minute mark) that aired in June.
While the Scotiabank Vancouver Half-Marathon & 5k registrations for 2016 are not yet open, you can support the Alzheimer Society of B.C. in another health and wellness event, MKGG (Mt. Kilimanjaro Grouse Grind for Alzheimer's), taking place on Sunday, September 27, 2015. For more information, click here.
