Holiday Give A Gift

Their memories may fade, but love remains.

give the gift of support

Richard Hamilton, a client at the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County, is shown here surrounded by his sons and grandsons during Christmas 2010.

For so many of us, the holiday season is a special time of year filled with traditions and celebrations.  For some individuals and families living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, the precious memories that are cherished year after year may be a little less bright and the festivities may be a little less merry.
"For Richard and I, the holidays are all about family.  We always hosted at our home and Richard’s excitement to have everyone together was contagious.  His joy and energy absolutely filled the room!  When he was diagnosed with dementia, things changed.  We decided to sell our home of 46 years and move to a smaller place.  Our sons and their families happily took over the hosting duties.  The traditions may have changed but the celebrations continue.  Richard is more reserved now, but he is here and he loves the time his family spends together. We still laugh…a lot.

Give a very special gift this holiday season.

The Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County supports individuals, like Cheryle and Richard, and their families in discovering new ways to enjoy the holidays and to live well with dementia every day.

“Richard’s dementia may have changed how we celebrate the holidays but, with help from the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County, we have learned to cherish all of the positive moments, to include Richard and to appreciate who he is today.  Every time we visit for an education session, networking group, or individual counselling, we leave feeling better and are reassured that we are not alone.  We have built connections to help us maintain our optimism and courage. We are so grateful!”

Please join us in supporting individuals and families living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia here in Dufferin County.  Increasingly, we must rely on the generosity of people just like you to help fund the programs and resources that are so helpful in supporting our clients as they strive to live well.  While the need in our community continues to increase, our commitment to providing support, hope and relief to our clients is unwavering.
