Education for the caregiver

The Alzheimer Society provides many opportunities for caregivers of people living with dementia to receive education. Contact the Alzheimer Society Elgin-St.Thomas to join the next Learning Series or view our events calendar for future dates.

FIRST LINK® Learning Series is comprised of a series of courses designed to give you the information and resources you need when you need it.  Each course consists of a 2 1/2  hour weekly session, for 4 weeks.  These courses  help you better understand dementia, coping strategies, planning, resources and supports. Participants have the opportunity to learn and share with others who are affected by dementia.

Next Steps for Families and Friends offers family and friends of individuals living with dementia an overview of the disease.

Care Essentials provides helpful strategies and support for the caregiver.

Options for Care explores future care needs, including long term care.

Care in Later Stages helps family members to understand what to expect in the later stages of the disease.


Lending Library and Resource Centre

Our lending library and resource centre is open to caregivers, family members and the public and includes books, DVD's, brochures, pamphlets and community resource information.
