Success Story: Caregiver Leave

On October 29th 2014, the Amendment to the Ontario Employee Standards Act will come into effect and offer three new leaves for Ontario employees:

  • Family caregiver leave
  • Critically ill child care leave
  • Crime-related child death or disappearance leave

As a member of the Ontario Caregiver Coalition, the Alzheimer Society of Ontario, advocates and other organizations lobbied the government for these changes. We couldn't have done it without the support of people like you.

The Amendment provides job-protected leaves of absence of up to 8 weeks annually to caregivers so they can focus their attention on what matters most; being there, offering care and support to a family member with a serious medical condition. People caring for a person with dementia qualify for this leave.
