Thank you to ASNS from the CEO
As 2020 continues to reshape the world as we know it – how we work, how we socialise, even as we tend to our most basic needs – here at ASNS we have embraced this change and worked diligently to respond to our environment and ensure that client support has remained in place. We have achieved this by being fluid; acknowledging the need to change and adapt as regularly as possible so we could keep pace with new information as it became known. We have achieved this by remaining visible; committing resources to reaching out personally to all our stakeholder groups to send a VERY clear message – we are here, and we will still be here. And we have achieved this by embracing new technology approaches; being as flexible and supportive as necessary as we all get to grips with new aspects of technology and how we can use it continue to offer client services both now, and in the still-unknown post-COVID19 landscape.
But we could NEVER have achieved this without one key thing – our incredible staff team.
On March 12th, 2020, COVID-19 was declared a Global Pandemic by the World Health Authority. By March 17th, 2020, our office was closed, and we had moved our entire team of 26 to home-based working. We took the immediate decision to strip back our work so we could get our entire team focused on core services and activities. Our Infoline – a vital, direct support service, was not interrupted during our transition. New technology was adopted immediately and the whole team pulled together to continue our work even as we grappled with the teething troubles any new systems and processes present. Work began straight away on replacing our in-person programming with virtual offerings. And our Philanthropy team pulled out all the stops to ensure that our annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s – our biggest revenue event that fundraises to support our critical services – was successfully moved online, and we were positioned to raise as much money as we could during a time of global crisis.
To say those first two months were a challenge would be a disservice to the amazing work of our team in the face of daily challenges and barriers – not least, the challenge of working in isolation. It has been a Herculean effort.
And now, almost 3 months later, the staff team at ASNS are laser-focused on what we need to do in a post-COVID-19 world; what will services need to look like to ensure folks are getting the support they need? How will we recover significant losses to fundraising revenues? How will we ensure we are fully prepared for what needs to be done next to support Nova Scotians on the dementia journey?
Like the rest of the world, I don’t know the answers to any of these questions. But what I DO know is this – with this staff team at the helm, we WILL get where we need to go. We WILL remain in service to support our clients regardless of the challenges of the external environment. And as always – we will do all this with heart, dedication, passion, and a smile.
On June 3rd, I was thrilled to unite our team for an online ‘staff celebration’. We ate treats. We laughed. We played BINGO! We celebrated each other, and the incredible things that can be achieved when talented, dedicated folks come together with common goals.
We were thrilled to receive a thank you message and song from the very talented Canadian singer-songwriter duo Madison Violet. Please enjoy and join me in lending your voice to a heartfelt THANK YOU to our team!
