Meet Arlene

Arlene Wright

Arlene Wright, son Nash, daughter Regan, mother Rhoda.

Arlene Wright’s family started walking at the Ingersoll Walk for Memories in 2003. They made it a family event, with her son, Nash O’Leary, daughter, Regan O’Leary, mother Rhoda Wright, father John Wright and Arlene participating as a team. Arlene’s father had Alzheimer’s. They continued this as a family tradition each year.

Arlene’s Dad passed away in 2008. Arlene says, “The following year it was difficult to participate in the walk for emotional reasons, but we did and have continued to do so in my Dad’s honour, naming our team Grandpa Wright’s Team. We like the fun filled atmosphere of the walk and it gives our family something to do in the winter months. It has been a great venue to take the kids to, as there are many activities that kept them engaged in their younger years and we see several friends return each year and get to catch up and visit.”

Arlene goes on to say, “It is our way to help the organization that was so good to my Dad and our family when we struggled with his diagnosis and disease, and to help others who are affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The Alzheimer Society of Oxford staff have become very dear to us.”

Arlene continues to use the services of the Alzheimer Society of Oxford, currently attending a support group, as another family member now has dementia. Arlene says, “It is programs like these that are so important to caregivers, families and friends.”

Grandpa Wright’s Team continues to raise much needed funds every year for the Walk. Thank you so much to Arlene and her entire family for all they have done and continue to do for the Alzheimer Society of Oxford!
