Meet Trudy Hyde
For more than 20 years, Trudy Hyde’s been raising money to support an organization that’s close to her heart.
The Alzheimer Society of Oxford offers programs and services for people just like her brother and late father.
“My dad had Alzheimer’s, and we all helped my mom look after him. We have a whole history of Alzheimer’s in our family,” Trudy said.
The fundraising Walk has become a true family event for Trudy, her mom, and Trudy’s 11 siblings.
“It’s an awesome feeling to do some good. I just love it,” Trudy said. “It’s a really good, fun event. My kids always loved it. We all did a family thing.”
Her secret to success starts with generous coworkers.
Trudy recently retired, but she said her fundraising strategy will be the same this year – she’ll head back to Woodingford Lodge to pass around a pledge sheet.
“Everyone at work set aside their money for me. Everyone there was so supportive,” she said. “I didn’t even really have to work hard at raising the money. I’ve done it so long that people just give me the money.”
She’s no longer at Woodingford, but she knows her friends and former colleagues will support her.
And come January, Trudy will be lacing up her shoes alongside her family. She always looks forward to the Walk for Alzheimer’s.
“It’s one of my favourite times of year.”
