The 2017 Sweet Treats Silent Auction
Cakes and cookies and pies – oh my!
The Alzheimer Society of Oxford’s Sweet Treats Silent Auction is back for a second year, selling volunteer-made desserts to raise money for its programs and services.
If its cookies that suit your sweet tooth, you won’t want to miss placing a bid on Lee Fox’s shortbread.
Lee baked two platters of homemade shortbread cookies for the auction last year. She’ll have two up for grabs at this year’s Sweet Treats as well.
For Lee, participating in the fundraiser was a win-win; she got to spend a few hours chatting with girlfriends and help raise money for the Alzheimer Society.
“What an amazing group of people. It was just great. Loved it,” she recalls.
This year’s Sweet Treats Silent Auction will be held at the Alzheimer Society of Oxford office in Woodstock on Oct. 3, from 10-1:00 p.m. A variety of delicious treats will be up for bidding. For those who can’t wait to see if they came out on top (or can’t bear to walk away from those mouth-watering shortbread cookies), many of the items will have a “Buy It Now” price as well.
Lee was blown away last year by the generosity of the bids. She’s happy to see people supporting the organization, where she has been volunteering for just under two years.
Lee’s grandmother had Alzheimer’s, but before she began volunteering, she knew very little about the disease. Her family didn’t discuss her grandmother’s illness. Working with the Alzheimer Society of Oxford has been an eye-opening experience for her.
“It’s a fantastic cause. They work very hard there and … they’re so knowledgeable,” she says. “If there’s anything you need to know about the disease, they are the people to go to.”
Lee hopes people will come out to the silent auction to help support the Alzheimer Society’s crucial work.
When it comes to Sweet Treats, for Lee, the baked goods are just the icing on the cake.
