Provincial Election 2024
Raise your voice to let the election candidates know why dementia is an important issue for you, your family and your community.
The provincial election in New Brunswick is on October 21, 2024, and we want candidates to prioritize dementia. Over 12,000 people in New Brunswick currently live with dementia, a number that is expected to nearly double by 2050. New Brunswick urgently needs a dementia strategy to ensure the province is able to address existing and anticipated challenges.
The Alzheimer Society of NB is advocating for 4 Key Dementia Care Priorities:
- Fully Funded Dementia Strategy & Action Plan
Comprehensive support for diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and caregiver training. A strong provincial dementia strategy can improve diagnosis, support caregivers, fund community programs, and address the unique needs of younger people with dementia. - Implement Long-Term Care System Report Recommendations
Enact recommendations for better long-term care conditions. - Increase Investments in Community Supports and Programs
Expand funding for programs for those with a diagnosis of dementia such as adult day programs, respite care, and in-home supports, as well as support and education programs for their care partners. - Review Policies for Young Onset Dementia
Improve policies and create programs for those diagnosed before age 65.
