Volunteer Companion Program

Volunteers who have expressed interest in becoming a volunteer companion and matched with a person with dementia in the community must complete a 12-hour training program.

The training is quite extensive and includes an overview of Alzheimer’s disease, the signs and symptoms seen throughout the progression of the disease, a review of other dementias, communication, emergency procedures, family dynamics.

Other education opportunities for volunteers

Volunteers may also benefit from, and are therefore encouraged to attend, education series and events that are offered to the general public, including Learning About Memory Loss, Reducing the Risk of Dementia, and our Public Presentations.
