Understanding the desires of informal carers of persons with dementia living in the community

What is this Study about?

Bruyère Research Institute, Ottawa, is conducting a study that aims to promote the compassionate use of smart home technology by understanding what informal carers of persons with dementia living in the community desire with respect to the selection and use of smart home technology. This information will be used to better adapt smart home technology to address behavioural and safety concerns that have been highlighted by informal carers for persons with dementia.

What Will Happen in This Study?

Participants will be asked to participate in a roughly 40-minute interview to explore their current experiences caring for their loved one with dementia and ways in which smart home technology could support their ability to provide care.

Interviews may be done in person (Ottawa), on the phone (Canada-wide) or by videoconferencing (Canada-wide), in English or French.

Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?

You are eligible if you:

-Are an informal caretaker of a person with dementia

- live with the person with dementia, or apart

- Are able to communicate during an interview either in-person, on the phone or by videoconferencing

-Speak English and French
