The Cognitive Kitchen: A Program to Support Dementia Risk Reduction and Living Well with Dementia

What is this Study about?

The aim of this study is to examine participants' experiences and outcomes of a culinary nutrition education program called the Cognitive Kitchen. The Cognitive Kitchen is composed of six weekly cooking classes delivered either virtually over Zoom or in person in communities within a 150 km radius of Yorkton, SK. All participants in the Cognitive Kitchen are invited to take part in the research study but research participation is entirely voluntary and not required to join the program. Optional research activities include completing pre- and post-program outcome measure surveys and participating in an interview at the end of the program.

What Will Happen in This Study?

Interested participants are invited to complete the program intake survey:

www.surveymonkey.ca/r/cognitivekitchenintake and indicate the degree to which they wish to participate in research (if at all) by making checkbox selections at the end of the survey. Some components of the research are observational and do not require any effort beyond participation in the program. Each of the six program sessions is expected to be 90-120 mins and will involve recipe preparation, nutrition education, and socialization. As part of the program, participants may also choose to complete digital journal entries to provide feedback and talk about their experiences.

Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?

Live in Saskatchewan (priority will be given to participants living in communities within a 150 km radius of Yorkton,SK)

- Are either 55 or over OR a care partner of a person living with dementia
