Exploring family experiences of mealtimes in long-term care: A grounded theory study
What is this Study about?
The purpose of this study is to understand family experiences of mealtimes in long-term care. We will interview current or bereaved family caregivers of people living with dementia in long-term care homes in Saskatchewan to understand and describe what is needed to support meaningful family engagement at mealtimes into later stages of dementia to inform family-centred mealtime interventions and resources for families navigating evolving dementia care needs.
What Will Happen in This Study?
Participants will take part in an individual interview about their experiences of engaging in mealtimes with a family resident living with dementia in long-term care. Interviews will last about one hour.
Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?
- 18 years of age or older
- able to understand, speak, and read English
- identify as the family caregiver of a person living with dementia who resides or resided in a Saskatchewan long-term care home in the past three years
- are or were involved in mealtimes as part of your caregiving role
- are at least three months bereaved (if applicable)
