CIRCA-SK: Promoting social connection between people with dementia and caregivers

What is this Study about?

The aim of the study is to implement a computer-based interactive reminiscence tool entitled CIRCA. We are looking for care partner dyads and group facilitators to use this tool with people living with dementia. We will be recording any group use of CIRCA (i.e., day programs, conversation circles) and conducting exit interviews with all participants in order to determine the efficacy of the new content, and the usefulness of the tool in general. Data collected will be stored at the University of Toronto (where the national lead is) and will be used in publications and presentations, both academic and non-academic.

What Will Happen in This Study?

Participants will:

• Complete a demographic survey and memory test.

• Use CIRCA-SK as a group activity at your organization (e.g., senior’s centre) twice weekly for four weeks (eight, one-hour sessions).

• Use CIRCA-SK at home with a family member/friend caregiver once weekly (20 minutes) for four weeks or as often as you and your caregiver choose.

Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?

-are a care partner to someone with dementia

-are a person living with dementia (which will be determined by a telephone assessment)

-are the facilitator of a group of people living with dementia (i.e., a conversation circle or day program)

-ability to speak English
