Exploring Resiliency in Informal Caregivers of People Living with Dementia

What is this Study about?

Newer research on caregivers of people living with dementia (PlwD) focuses on resilience, defined as a trajectory in which an individual can not only adapt but enhance and grow in challenging circumstances. This research will investigate what resilience looks like for caregivers of Plwd, and what behaviours, environmental and social factors lead to and promote resiliency. I am currently recruiting caregiver research partners as collaborators on this study. They will be asked to provide input on research questions, recruitment strategies, design of study materials and knowledge translation.

What Will Happen in This Study?

Importantly, we are seeking research partners rather than participants. Research partners will be involved in helping shape research questions, recruitment strategies, study design and materials, and knowledge translation. The role will involve participation in 6 video conference (Zoom) meeting over 1-1.5 years. Additionally, up to 4 hours of reading or reviewing material between meetings. There will also be the opportunity to co-lead one or two knowledge translation activities, which would be an extra few hours.

Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?

You are eligible to participate if you...
- Are either currently caregiving for a Plwd (with a diagnosis) or have recently been caring for a Plwd (in the past year) for at least one year
- Are fluent in English
- Are living and caring for someone in Canada
- Are an informal (i.e., unpaid) caregiver
- Have access to technology to join Zoom meetings (i.e., smartphone, tablet or computer)
