Dance/Movement Therapy for Family Caregiver Resilience
What is this Study about?
This study aims to explore the benefits of creative movement for caregiver well-being. Finding creative and active ways of coping and finding respite can help caregivers. A six-week creative movement group based on principles of dance/movement therapy will be run to explore how it could promote caregiver resilience. The program requires no dance experience and will emphasize gentle forms of improvisational movement to a variety of music styles. Participants will complete an online baseline survey prior to participating in the program as well as a follow-up online survey and an interview, following completion of the movement program.
What Will Happen in This Study?
1. Participants will:
a) Complete an online baseline survey (20 minutes)
b) Attend six 1-hour creative movement sessions, once a week for six weeks, at an accessible space in the greater Toronto area.
c) Complete a follow-up online survey (20 minutes)
d) A virtual debrief interview (1 hour) which is optional
2. Participants will be involved in the study for approximately 8 weeks, given the 6 week program.
Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?
You are eligible to participate if you: identify as a primary caregiver for a family member (e.g., parent) or partner/spouse living with dementia.
