Needs of Caregivers Involved in Care using SmartHome Systems for Patients with Dementia

What is this Study about?

The objectives of this research are:         

1. To investigate the perceptions of informal caregivers involved with dementia patients’ care using smart home technology

2. Gather a list of requirements associated with smart home use from the perspective of informal caregivers

3. Develop visualizations and use case scenarios to represent the qualitative and quantitative information that is collected

Information will be gathered via online interview (Zoom) and qualitatively analyzed.

What Will Happen in This Study?

The entire interaction will take approximately 30 minutes to complete:

1. Demographic Questionnaire

2. eHEALS Literacy Questionnaire (Health Literacy Assessment)

3. Virtual SmartHome Demo and interview (photo display and think aloud)

Who is Eligible to Participate in this Study?

- Currently a non-medical caregiver of a dementia patient who is living at home

- Over the age of 19

- Able to read, write and speak English

Exclusion Criteria

- Caregiver of a patient who is institutionalized (e.g. living in care facility)

- Under age of 19

- Health Care Professionals (e.g. care aides, hired help)
