Storytelling and Audio Diaries: A Novel Method to Capture and Support Dementia Caregiving
What is this Study about?
This study aims to identify the impact of personal audio recordings and social support combined with storytelling for facilitating wellbeing and quality of life for dementia caregivers and people living with dementia. Recordings and small group sessions with caregiver peers will be evaluated to identify common themes, and at the end of the study, caregivers will have the opportunity to 1) share their experiences of the study, and 2) have some of their stories/recordings showcased via a podcast that will disseminate insights and results of this study to the broader dementia and caregiver communities.
What Will Happen in This Study?
Caregivers (and care partners, if willing) will record regular audio diaries (of any length) about their daily caregiving experiences over the course of 12-weeks. Every two weeks, caregiver participants will meet in small groups (4-5 caregivers) over Zoom to share personal stories (including recording snippets) and will be prompted to explore themes that emerge by the session facilitator. These sessions will last 90 minutes. Following the completion of 6 small group sessions, caregivers (and care recipients, if interested) will be invited to take part in one-on-one interviews to explore their experiences of taking part in the project.
