Education

The Alzheimer Society Grey-Bruce offers education programs and services to help people living with dementia, care partners, and families better understand dementia.

Programs cover topics such as understanding dementia, communication strategies, changes in behaviour, planning ahead, and adapting to brain changes. Specialized programs, including the First Link Learning Series, provide practical information and support throughout the dementia journey.

Participants gain knowledge, tools, and confidence to make informed decisions, support quality of life, and navigate care options. Education sessions also offer a welcoming space to connect with others who may be having similar experiences.

We encourage clients and families to explore our education programs and contact us with any questions.

Support

Receiving support from an Alzheimer Society Grey-Bruce First Link Care Navigator or First Link Support Counsellor can help individuals and care partners feel more informed, prepared, and less alone throughout the dementia journey. Counsellors provide supportive counselling, practical education, and person-centred guidance tailored to each person’s needs, goals, and circumstances. Support may include learning more about dementia, developing coping strategies, identifying safety concerns, planning ahead, and connecting with helpful community services and programs. Services are available by phone, email, video, office visit, home visit, community visit, or through Memory Clinics. Whether someone is newly diagnosed, experiencing changes, or caring for a person living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment, First Link offers compassionate support to help improve confidence, decision-making, and quality of life.

Recreation

Recreation programs are designed to enhance quality of life for people living with dementia and their care partners through person-centred, therapeutic activities. These programs promote social connection, cognitive engagement, physical activity, and emotional wellbeing in safe, inclusive environments.

We offer a range of recreation services across in-person and virtual groups, and in-home settings, including social recreation groups such as Minds in Motion, Musical Minds, and In-Home Recreation. These programs provide meaningful engagement, reduce isolation, support autonomy, and help families live well with dementia across the journey.
