Dementia Strategy

The strategy has been released and partners, led by the Department of Health and Wellness (DHW), have been charged with its implementation. The Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia is one of those and we have been given a three year mandate to educate, support and inform Nova Scotians about dementia. Over the past few weeks we have been in discussion with the DHW about the how that is to happen. We have clarity on the deliverables, the outcomes required by the DHW and we have agreed upon the evaluative framework and methods of reporting.

Back at the Society, at the operational level, we have reviewed position descriptions, job advertisements, and updated our organizational requirements, so that once the memorandum of understanding is signed in the next few weeks, we can hit the road running.

We have already increased our resources on our InfoLine. We have also scheduled meetings with the 811 TeleHealth service to enhance our info and provide service together, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Additional staff will brought in this September to grow the existing four regional roles, and we will be contracting out some educational development shortly.

I'll be updating again in the fall. If you have any questions in the meantime, or need to speak to someone about dementia, please call us at 902-422-7961 / 1-800-611-6345.

It's an exciting time to be with the Society and we look forward to working with you and other community partners.
