    Identifying Research Priorities for Frailty and Dementia: Results from an International Stakeholder Survey

    What is this Study about?

    In the past, frailty and dementia were treated as distinct entities; however, it is now recognized that they share a complex relationship. As a result, there is an urgent need for the joint investigation of frailty and dementia. Our survey aims to bring together perspectives from stakeholders worldwide who share an interest in frailty and dementia. We are collecting data over the next several months, via various promotional "waves." Once we reach adequate participation and thematic saturation, we anticipate that data analysis and knowledge dissemination will take approximately six months.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • You are 18 years of age or older.
    • You have an interest in frailty and dementia.
    • This includes researchers, healthcare professionals, policy and decision-makers, older adults, care partners, advocates, and others with relevant interest or experience.
    • You speak English.

    Mobile/Tablet Validation of the Cogniciti Brain Health Assessment

    What is this Study about?

    This study measures how well an online assessment measures brain health on mobile devices. The assessment includes different memory and attention tasks completed on a mobile device or tablet. We are also looking for volunteers for a one-session study to support the development of the desktop version of the Brain Health Assessment.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Are between the ages of 20–35, 50–65, or 80–95
    • Are fluent in English
    • Have no significant concerns about memory, and have no mild cognitive impairment, vascular dementia, Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, any cancer treated with chemotherapy, brain tumour, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, or current depression
    • Have access to a mobile/tablet and/or a computer
    • Are comfortable using a mobile/tablet and/or a computer and have internet access
    • Have not completed Cogniciti’s Brain Health Assessment in the past 6 months

    Assessing the Impact of Day programs on individuals living with Dementia and their family/friend Caregivers

    What is this Study about?

    This study explores how adult day programs affect the lives of people living with dementia and their caregivers across several Canadian regions. Over time, we gather information about health, well-being, daily experiences, and quality of life of people living with dementia who attend day program and their caregivers. We also aim to learn about day programs themselves, such as their activities, staffing, challenges, and successes. By combining surveys, interviews, and focus groups, our program of research aims to understand what makes day programs helpful, where challenges exist, and how day program can better support families, and people who use them.

    Eligibility Criteria

    You are eligible to participate if you:

    • Are an older adult living with dementia who attends or does not attend a day program

    • You are a family/friend caregiver of someone living with dementia who attends or does not attend a day program

    • Live in one of the participating regions (Ontario, Winnipeg MB, Calgary AB, or Interior BC)

    • Are able to take part in a conversation or complete surveys, with support if needed

    CAN-PROTECT

    What is this Study about?

    CAN-PROTECT is a Canada-wide online study recruiting participants and caregivers of persons with dementia to explore how lifestyle, background, and caretaking factors affect our health, quality of life, cognition, behaviour, and function as we age. CAN-PROTECT data will be analyzed and jointly published by the University of Calgary in partnership with the University of Exeter.

    Eligibility Criteria

    - Age 18 years or older

    - Reside in Canada

    - Have access to a computer/touchscreen device

    - Can provide informed consent

    - Do not have a diagnosis of dementia

    - Additionally, we are enrolling participants who have previously or currently care for persons with dementia for caregiver-specific assessments

    - Ability to speak English
