because the caring never stops

This June, to honour the father figures in our lives who inspire us to care, connect and live well, we encourage you to donate to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Your contribution will ensure British Columbians affected by dementia receive the support they need to connect with and care for the people in their lives who matter most.

Because the caring never stops.

Jeron's story

My parents have always demonstrated loyalty and empathy, inspiring me to be a better person, husband and father. These qualities, along with the caring they show for each other and or our family, have only deepened since my mother Gerryann was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She is the foundation of our household and has always encouraged us to be the best versions of ourselves. My father Malik, regardless of the situation, is always by our side and ready to help. He teaches us to keep looking forward, even in difficult times.

While my mother has made a conscious effort to never hide behind her diagnosis, I know my father, her primary care partner, often conceals his true feelings to ensure my siblings and I are okay. His strength and dedication are truly inspiring.

This month, I’m donating to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. in honour of both my father and my mother, their resilience and the supportive community that surrounds our family.

Because I still care.

Brian's story

I have always cared about living life to the fullest – from helping others and giving my all in athletics. A diagnosis of early onset dementia changed many things, but not my drive. Five months after my diagnosis, I pursued a lifelong dream of wrestling competitively in Las Vegas, coached by my daughter, whom I had coached in high school. This experience felt even more fulfilling sharing it with one of my children.

I care about the effects my diagnosis has on my family. My spouse Penny and I strive to remain active parents and grandparents while ensuring we spend as much quality time together as possible. I want my children and grandchildren to see that despite what is put in front of you, it is important to live your life fully, strive to make the world a better place and always learn from and surround yourself with people you care for – and who care for you.

This Father’s Day, I encourage you to donate to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. to support families like mine. Just as my family is so important to me, your gift is so important to British Columbians affected by dementia.

Jana and father

Because the caring never stops.

Jana's story

Since he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, my father and I have grown closer. We’ve bonded over his Métis heritage, which he has become more comfortable sharing since his diagnosis, and have spent countless hours walking through nature and listening to music together. Throughout this journey, I have also developed a strong connection with the Alzheimer Society of B.C. Their support has given me the confidence to connect with my father and others affected by dementia, by focusing on dignity and respect.

This Father’s Day, I’m donating to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. in honour of my father, Roy, because he inspires me to connect and build meaningful relationships. Just as my father has impacted me, your gift can have a real impact on British Columbians affected by dementia.
