Frances' Volunteer Story

Frances' Volunteer Story

I decided to start volunteering after retirement, time to give back to society.  I chose the Alzheimer's Society because of my husband's long family history with Alzheimer's disease.  After spending years interacting with his mother and sister, I felt I had some insight into the disease, plus I wanted to learn more for myself.  I'm a firm believer of physical activity so I chose to volunteer with the Minds in Motion program.  What a fantastic program!!!  Half an hour of movement, half an hour of social time and half an hour of cognitive stimulating games.  My words of wisdom:  laughter/sense of humour is the best medicine, take the time to listen, keep a sharp eye for wanderers who might leave the room, be flexible, participate fully (don't just serve the coffee/tea).

Why did you volunteer with the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County?
