Thank you for celebrating Oma's Ride
The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County raised more than $42,000 at Oma's Ride on Sunday, Sept. 28 at Quayle's Brewery.

Oma's Ride started in 2024, as a fundraiser for the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County (ASSC). Revenue generated through our events supports the Society in creating more access to programs and services for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and their care partners.
Oma's Ride was named in memory of ASSC CEO Ann-Marie Kungl's Oma (grandmother), Anna, who had her own journey with dementia. Anna was an immigrant dairy farmer and gardener in southwestern Ontario.
"My Oma was a remarkable woman that lived off the land with her huge garden that fed the family," granddaughter Ann-Marie's sister Jenny Kungl said. "She cooked every Sunday for us - a three course meal. Never because she had to, but because she loved to. We would all gather there to visit - allowing the hustle and bustle of our lives slow down for an afternoon. Always starting with homemade soup, then a meat and potato with salad dish and then a homemade dessert - she was the best schnitzel maker, too."
"As her disease progressed, she was less aware of the day of the week, how much salt to put in her dishes, and eventually she could not do the normal things she loved to do. It is heartbreaking to watch a strong, independent, proud woman become someone that she never was before. We ride in honour of my Oma and to raise money for other families that are going through what we did as a family."
The second annual event, held Sept. 28, 2025, raised more than $43,800 for the ASSC, which supports programs to promote awareness, educate and support those living with dementia.
