Timmins-Porcupine District

Laurentian University Logo

A Laurentian University project is examining how caregivers and the community organizations that support them improve the quality of life of Francophone seniors in Northern Ontario and how they promote aging in place.  The study also aims to understand differences in the experiences of caregivers based on gender and cultural background.

Looking for participants for a research project

Are you a spouse, son, daughter (family member) or neighbor, aged 55+, who lives in the areas of Sudbury, Nipissing, Cochrane, or Timiskaming and provides support to someone aged 65+ in order for them to continue staying at home safely? Are you a francophone and/or a person with an immigrant background?

If yes: you are eligible to participate in a research project led by Laurentian University's social work program focusing on your experiences as a francophone in a linguistic minority who assumes the role of caregiver or who helps an elderly loved one in Northern Ontario.

The study will take approximately two hours (group discussion) and one hour (for an individual interview) of your time.

You will receive a VISA gift card in appreciation of your participation for each session.

The project is led by Dr. Frantz Siméon (professor in the social work program at Laurentian University): fsimeon@laurentienne.ca

This study received approval from the Laurentian University Research Ethics Board.
