Update on the coronavirus and the Society’s activities: March 10, 2020
The Alzheimer Society of B.C. is closely following the situation that is emerging related to COVID-19 (coronavirus). The health and safety of our community members is paramount to us.
Our planning and response to this issue is based upon guidance and information being regularly provided by the Public Health Agency of Canada as well as the BC Centre for Disease Control. The current assessment by these agencies is that the risk of spread of this virus within our communities is low.
As such, we will continue to offer all the regular activities associated with First Link® dementia support, including in-person education sessions, support groups and Minds in Motion® fitness and social program. These activities provide crucial information, education and community connection for both people living with dementia and their care partners.
We will also continue to work with the community donors and supporters whose generosity makes our programs possible through our signature fundraising events like the Breakfast to Remember and the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, as well as other independent fundraisers.
Whether they are deciding whether to attend events as part of First Link® dementia support or attend events to help us raise funds and raise awareness, we encourage people to make the best decision for themselves according to their own health and circumstances. We ask that people practice good hygiene during cold and flu season, including proper hand washing with soap and water, covering mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and staying home when sick.
We also encourage them to seek the information of their local health authority:
