Make it your year to move mountains
Are you an adventurous, determined, team-orientated individual with a passion for making a difference in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias? The Alzheimer Society of B.C. has two events – Ascent for Alzheimer’s and the Mt. Kilimanjaro Grouse Grind for Alzheimer’s – that will allow you to raise funds and awareness for the over 70,000 British Columbians who face dementia.
Ascent for Alzheimer’s is a 19,340 hike up Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. Each year the Society sends up a team of up to 12 individuals who embark on the journey in honour of a loved one, or for a life changing adventure. Hiker’s commit to raising a minimum of $10,000, which goes towards education resources, support services and research for a cure. The 2015 hike will take place from September 23-29 and there are limited positions left. For more information, visit www.ascentbc.ca.
The Mt. Kilimanjaro Grouse Grind takes place closer to home, on Grouse Mountain in North Vancouver. The exhilarating team based event sees teams complete a minimum of seven grinds between them, as this is the amount of grinds that equal one ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Each participant is provided with an online fundraising page and a recommended minimum target of $500. Taking place in 2015 on Sunday, September 27, the event also supports the Ascent team.
