Minds in Motion

This eight-week program, delivered once weekly, is comprised of up to one hour of physical activity and one hour of mentally stimulating activity (therapeutic recreation) in a social environment. The program is delivered at municipal recreation centres, Older Adult Centres or similar multiservice centres to help normalize the experience for participants and to facilitate sustainability. The physical activity component of the program, the framework and curriculum for which was developed by the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA), is facilitated by a trained physical activity program leader, typically a paid staff person of the partnering centre. The therapeutic recreation component of the program, developed by a team from the Brock University Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, is facilitated by the Minds in Motion® Coordinator with the support of volunteers and/or post-secondary student learners with expertise in Therapeutic Recreation
