Recognizing our volunteers
We are appreciative of the great work that volunteers contribute to the Alzheimer Society. One of the many ways that let volunteers know that we care about them is through the Ontario Volunteer Service Awards. Here is our latest group of volunteers who were recognized at this annual event.

Recognition
When they begin their involvement with an organization, volunteers do not think primarily of what they might receive from their volunteer roles. They simply want to make a difference in their community.
However, we are very conscious of all that volunteers do for the Society. We know that without the support of our dedicated volunteers, we would not be able to meet the goals of our programs and services without their commitment to the individuals living with dementia and their care partners.
Because we are aware of the importance of the volunteer contribution, each time a volunteer completes a shift, we thank them for their work that day.
Suggestions made by volunteers to improve our programs and volunteer roles are carefully considered and implemented whenever possible.
Cards are sent to volunteer to mark significant occasions in their lives sand to express support of volunteer.
Social events are held periodically to say, “Thank you, volunteers”.
During National Volunteer Week in April, volunteers receive a recognition certificate to express our appreciation for the time that they have contributed throughout the year. The volunteer who contributes the highest number of hours in the year, receives the Volunteer of the Year Award.
Each year, 6 volunteers are recognized for the length of their service to the Alzheimer Society at The Ontario Volunteer Service Awards ceremony presented by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
The Distinguished Award Program provides an opportunity every few years to mark significant achievements by specific volunteers in the following categories: Advocate, Builder; Education; Fundraising; Support Services.

On November 26th, Ontario Volunteer Service Awards were presented at the Southshore Community Centre in Barrie to: (L-R) Don Saunders, Maureen Hennessy, Patty Hickman and David Moore. Marla Tomlinson and Maureen Westbrooke were not able to attend this ceremony, but also received awards.
We express our heartfelt appreciation to these volunteers for their commitment and dedication to the work of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County over the years. We are grateful for their contributions to fundraising activities, public education events, and helping to deliver Society materials throughout the County.
These 6 individuals are representative of the large group of volunteers who support the mission of the Alzheimer Society in Simcoe County. All of our volunteers ‘Make a Difference’ in the community and provide ‘Help for Today and Hope for Tomorrow’ to people living with dementia, and care partners.
