Matthew Vorstermans and his Oma

Matthew Vorstermans has many memories of his Oma Jean.
Even though he lived in Ontario and she lived in the United States, they formed a close attachment as he was growing up, and he also spent time with her along her dementia journey.

It's because of those cherished times that Matthew continues to pay tribute to his Oma as he participates in the annual IG Wealth Management for Alzheimer's - he has been one of the many volunteers who fundraises for the 11,500 people living with dementia in Simcoe County.
Matthew lives in Creemore, Ontario, and spends his time volunteering. For many years he has supported residents at a local nursing home, reading to children at the public library and most passionately, volunteering to support those living with dementia.
Through the last 18 years, Matthew has raised $77,000 for the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County, and he shared some of his reasons why he continues to honour his Oma's memory in the latest Dementia Dialogue, season 6, episode 69.

Listen to his Dementia Dialogue podcast episode, "It Started with Oma" to hear the inspiring story of how Matthew's Oma influenced him in his volunteer work supporting and advocating for people living with dementia.
