Attend the opening and closing conferences with all participants. The rest of the day will be spent attending 4 workshops of your choice (2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon).  

The forum will take place on September 21, 2022 at Centre Mont-Royal (doors open at 8 a.m.).

In this opening conference hosted by Marie-France Bazzo, a panel of experts will weigh in on active ageing and touch on questions such as: How can we age in good health? What are the secrets of centenarians? How can the elderly deal with ageism?

Ageing and neurodegenerative diseases result in cognitive changes that affect autonomy and quality of life. This conference will explain the areas that can be worked on to maintain cognitive health and present strategies to reduce the risk of cognitive decline

Protecting incapacitated persons (IN FRENCH ONLY)

The Law to better protect vulnerable persons will enter into effect on November 1, 2022. Corinne Harbec-Lachapelle will lead this workshop on the transition from the current to the new protection measures. New additions to the law, such as temporary representation and the assistance measure,  will also be discussed.

Daily moments of fun are key to the well-being of both patient and caregiver. This workshop will give you the tools to improve how you communicate with the person living with Alzheimer’s to foster a sense of well-being and fun.

Preparing to leave your home (IN FRENCH ONLY)

Is the person living alone with Alzheimer’s less and less autonomous? Do they need 24/7 supervision? Are their caregivers burning out and CLSC services no longer enough? We’ll provide you with an overview of the various questions to ask yourselves and the steps to prepare for when transferring a loved one to a residence, care unit or long-term care centre (CHSLD).

This workshop will help you to better understand the medical conditions that lead to end of life in advanced dementia. We’ll discuss the care available for people with dementia in the end-of-life stage as well as where to get this care.

The Notary will explain how to help a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease. All the legal steps will be explained, from the moment they receive their diagnosis, until they become incapable of making their own decisions. This workshop will inform you about the legal process involved to enforce a protection mandate.

Claire Webster will share some very important lessons from her personal journey as a caregiver to her late mother and from her professional experience in helping other families. She will describe the ripple effect that being a caregiver had on her own health, family and career, and talk about resilience.
