The Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton offers plenty of information and support opportunities for individuals who have Alzheimer's and related dementia, their care partners, family and friends.

Early diagnosis information and support

Information and support opportunities are available for individuals who have recently received a diagnosis of dementia or mild cognitive impairment.

Caregiver respite

An opportunity for a caregiver to spend some "me" time knowing that their loved one is also enjoying social activities with a qualified respite worker.

Are you providing care for a person with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia within the areas of Sarnia, Point Edward and Bright's Grove? Respite hours are available days, evenings and weekends and every attempt will be made to accommodate your need.

Support Groups are held in various locations and for different target groups.

General support services

  1. Registration with the Wandering registry; may be accessed on line at www.alzheimer.ca
  2. Free loan of Mobility Monitors/door alarms; for those concerned about their family member getting up at night or walking outside.

Adult children as care partners

This group focuses on the experiences of a care partner from the adult-child perspective. Reflect on care partner tips, care planning with others in a similar situation.

  • Date: 2nd Tuesday of the month
  • Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm
  • Place: Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton

Frontotemporal dementia care partners support group

This group has been designed for care partners supporting someone with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of Frontotemporal dementia. This form of dementia has unique characteristics. Specific coping strategies are discussed in this group.

  • Date: 4th Tuesday of the month
  • Time: 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Early stage support group for persons with dementia

Life can be challenging as you adjust to your diagnosis of dementia. Feel free to share or just sit back and listen. You may discover some remarkable similarities.

  • Date: 2 groups held bi-weekly on Thursdays
  • Time: 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Care partners support group

This group is for spouse, family members or friends caring for a person with dementia. This group provides peer support and resources as well as coping strategies and information.

Sarnia Group:

  • Date: 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month
  • Time: 1:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Place Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton

Petrolia Group:

  • Date: 3rd Wednesday of the Month
  • Time: 10:0am to 12:00pm
  • Place: Central Lambton Family Health Team, Petrolia

Forest Group:

  • Date: 4th Wednesday of the Month
  • Time: 2:00pm - 3:30pm
  • Place: North Lambton Community Health Centre, Forest

Care partners bereavement support group

This is a closed support group held in 8 week intervals, as needed, to support individuals who have lost a friend or family member who lived with dementia.

  • Date: 8 consecutive Tuesdays
  • Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
  • Place: Alzheimer Society of Sarnia Lambton

John's lunch group

This is a social event where care partners and those living with dementia come together to have lunch, relax and meet new people.
