The Social
A weekly social group for persons living with early-stage dementia.
The Social is a weekly 3-hour holistic designed recreational program for individuals with early to mid-stage dementia. The Social is co-designed with participants to ensure activities are dementia-friendly and are based on interests and abilities of participants.
The Social offers:

Provide opportunities for care givers to have downtime
-
Reduced caregiver stress and social isolation
Eligibility Requirements
Participants should be:
-
Living with early to mid-stage dementia
-
Able to remain safely within the program space during the session
-
Able to arrange transportation to and from the program
-
Interested in participating in group-based recreation activities
-
Able to complete the registration and program intake processes prior to participation
Note: A formal dementia diagnosis is not required. Individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), probable dementia, or dementia symptoms may also be eligible.
The Social may not be appropriate for individuals who:

Do not have a form of dementia or mild cognitive impairment

Living with middle to late and/or advanced stage dementia
-
Live in long-term care
-
Already attend an adult day program
-
Require extensive personal care support during program hours
-
Experiences personal expressions that cannot be adequately supported through group facilitation and redirection.
