Volunteer Community Speaker Program
Free education program wherein volunteers offer presentations to the PEI community on behalf of the Alzheimer Society of PEI. Volunteers receive training in public speaking, presentation skills, and current topics related to dementia.
What is the Community Speaker Program?
The Community Speaker Program is a free education program wherein volunteers offer presentations to the PEI community on behalf of the Alzheimer Society of PEI. Volunteers receive training in presentation skills, public speaking, and current topics related to dementia.
The program is designed to raise awareness about dementia for Islanders by offering practical information to the community that helps to build capacity and skills in navigating the journey of dementia, including ways to reduce risk of developing dementia, accessing community and health care services and benefits, and planning for the future.
Training & Responsibility
This is a serious and important role for dementia advocacy and awareness. As a volunteer, you are representing the Alzheimer Society and are expected to act as ambassadors while performing your duties.
We offer a free, comprehensive training program for volunteers. This is designed to teach volunteers about dementia, up-to-date health resources, and professional presentation skills. It is an opportunity for volunteers to play a role in educating the community about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Training involves reading and learning the material you'll be presenting about, as well as practicing and honing your public speaking skills with ASPEI staff and peers to offer feedback to learn together. Ease into the role by co-presenting with ASPEI staff.
Becoming a Volunteer
To complete the volunteer process, we will need the following from you:
- Completed Online Application Form
- Resume
- A piece of government issued photo i.d.
- Signed Access & Confidentiality agreement
- Hard, original copy of your Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector if 18+ (we'll provide a letter so there is no cost to you)
After receiving your application, our Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to confirm and start the next steps.
