Welcoming Community Support
Now in its 7th year in PEI, the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's raises crucial funds that allow the Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward Island to offer programs and services to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their caregivers across the province.
With spring now underway and signs of summer on the horizon, the Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward Island is once again inviting the community to support the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, which takes place on May 29th, 2022.
Now in its 7th year in PEI, the Walk raises crucial funds that allow the Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward Island to offer programs and services to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their caregivers across the province. With the number of people living with dementia in Canada rising each year and projected to reach more than 900,000 by 2030, the need for more support for programs and services to help families, and to fund research into the causes of dementia and a cure is greater than ever.
“When families have access to information and support related to dementia, we see better outcomes. We provide a safe place for people to ask questions, to share their stories, to meet others who empathize and understand, and to receive education that helps them in providing day to day care and planning for the future” says, Jaime Constable, CEO at the Alzheimer Society of Prince Edward Island. “We’re grateful each year when Islanders come together and Walk with us to help support these services for families”.
There are a number of ways Prince Edward Island residents can take part in the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s and make a positive difference in the lives of people living with dementia and their families:

Most of all, have fun raising money for a fantastic cause!
Businesses across PEI have been getting involved and showing their support through sponsorship, prizes, and participating as locations on the month-long Island-wide scavenger hunt currently taking place.
The Local Pub and Oyster Bar is participating as a location in the scavenger hunt and is also donating a portion of the proceeds for certain menu items sold during the month of May to the Alzheimer Society. They are delighted to be supporting the cause.
“Alzheimer’s cases are on the rise locally and globally and we feel more awareness and proactive research is critical.” says Kent MacPhee, Owner of The Local. “I feel our local Alzheimer Society has been very helpful and supportive to Island families, even with limited resources. I can speak first hand to this, having lost a sister-in-law to dementia at the age of 60.”
At the Lobster Barn in Victoria PEI, owners Jackie and Jenny Myers are excited to be another stop on the scavenger hunt, and to help raise funds for programs and services here on PEI.
“This cause is very near and dear to our hearts. Mom was diagnosed 2.5 years ago, and our grandmother also had dementia.” says Jackie. “We want to keep Mom at home as long as possible, but right now that means someone has to be there to watch her 24 hours a day. No matter how much you love your family member, you need a break sometimes, and family members need support.”
All month long, The Lobster Barn is selling Forget-Me-Not cutouts, with proceeds going to the Alzheimer Society. If you participate in the scavenger hunt, stop by and take a picture, and post it on social media to win prizes.
Special thanks to Key Murray Law, the Sherwood Parkdale Lions Club, and Summerside Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram for their Gold level sponsorship of the event.
The national title sponsor is IG Wealth Management.
“We invite Islanders to join us in supporting the Alzheimer Society of PEI at this year’s IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s. We’re thrilled to partner and are looking forward to an in-person Walk this year to raise money in support of local programs and services” says Shelley Rowat, IG Wealth Management Regional Director.
