I Am Mike: Full Video

Mike and Karen Kessler share their journey with dementia. Rather than stepping back, they stepped forward to educate others, break stigma and prove that a dementia diagnosis does not define the person.

Produced by Axel Media and currently featured on CTV Windsor, their story is one of resilience, love, and continued impact.

If you’ve met one person with dementia, you’ve only met one person with dementia. Dementia is deeply personal, and every journey is different. This is the story of Mike Kessler — a man living with dementia — and his devoted care partner and wife, Karen Kessler. Following a traumatic brain injury from a car accident, Mike was diagnosed with vascular dementia.

But his diagnosis didn’t define him — it empowered him. Mike serves as a board member with the Alzheimer Society of Windsor and Essex County (ASWE), using his voice to advocate for others living with dementia. Karen stands beside him as a passionate community advocate and committee member, helping to shape support systems with compassion and purpose.

Together, they show us what resilience, love, and advocacy look like in action.

This is their story.
