D.A.Y. Program
The Alzheimer Society of York Region's D.A.Y. program offers social stimulation for a person diagnosed with dementia and respite for caregivers. This page will share information about the D.A.Y. program and their locations.

Staff are welcoming clients to two DAY programs: one in Aurora and one in Thornhill.

D.A.Y. program
The Alzheimer Society of York Region has been providing quality dementia-specific adult D.A.Y. centre services since 1985.
The D.A.Y. centre model is a comprehensive service that provides a structured, individualized recreational social programming for people diagnosed with dementia residing in York Region.
Goal of the D.A.Y. program
- Maintain an optimum level of intellectual, physical and social functioning
- Provide an opportunity for socialization
- Support and provide the primary caregiver with respite
- Delay institutionalization
- Promote a better understanding of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias

D.A.Y. program services
- Person-centred, individualized care,
- Planned social, physical and recreational activities,
- Structured daily activities include indoor and outdoor exercises, music programs, mental stimulation, discussion groups, reminiscing programs, gardening and games,
- Programs are engaging and stimulating,
- Activities are success-oriented,
- Foot care clinic every six weeks,
- Haircare,
- A daily hot meal and two snacks provided and
- Escorted transportation.
D.A.Y. program eligibility
- Referrals are welcomed from hospitals, health and other social service agencies, physicians, relatives and friends,
- Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias,
- Living within the York Region and
- Meets CCAC (Community Care Access Centre’s) eligibility criteria.
