U-First! 6 hour workshop for professional caregivers

Alzheimer Society of Durham Region will be hosting 4 U-First! workshops in Durham Region in 2017-18, as part of the CE LHIN BSO project. These sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (sign in and refreshments 8:30-9:00 a.m.). Please register online through the U-First web site. Fee $60 payable to Alzheimer Society Ontario on registration (credit card and invoice options available).

Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care
Upcoming Workshops: Friday October 27 | 8:30 to 4:30pm | Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, Whitby
This 7.5 hour workshop offers a comprehensive, practical education program that equips care providers with the knowledge, understanding, and skill to deliver person centred dementia care. We offer the 3rd edition curriculum. For more information about the GPA curriculum, visit the Advanced Gerontological Education web site.

Topic Specific In-Service Education
We are happy to tailor education sessions of a variety of topics to meet your learning needs. Possible topics include (but are not limited to):
- Supporting family caregivers
- The Changing Face of Cognitive Impairment: understanding vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and mild cognitive impairment
- Enhancing communication
- Working with abilities: using memory books/wallets, graphic cueing, and technology to support the person with dementia
- Emotional and behavioural responses to dementia
- Aging and memory (brain health)
