Young Fundraisers: Abby and Maya
These young fundraisers are making a BIG impact
Meet Abby, Age 10
"Hi, I'm Abby. I am 10 years old and in grade 4. I chose to raise money for Alzheimer's Society at our street garage sale because my grandmother has Alzheimer's disease.
It's important to me to do what I can to help. I raised sixty one dollars and twenty five cents for Alzheimer's Society.
I encourage other kids to help the disease too!"- Abby
Meet Maya, Age 10
As part of a school project 2 years ago, Maya had to choose an organization to learn about and present to her classmates. Maya’s great-grandfather has dementia so she chose the Alzheimer Society.
With the help of her parents, Maya reached out to her local society, Alzheimer Society of Toronto, and learned as much as she could about dementia. She really began to understand what happens when someone develops Alzheimer’s disease and their loss in memory and function. At that point Maya chose to fundraise and save up money so she could make a donation to the society.
Maya and her siblings decided that every year they would pick a charity to donate money to. Maya chose to donate to the Alzheimer's Society again. She hopes that one day a cure is found so that people won't get Alzheimer's disease. Maya hopes that even if they cannot help her great-grandfather then at least one day they can help other people.
