2025 Walk for Alzheimer's: May 24 + 25

Belleville, May 2025 - The Alzheimer Society of Hastings-Prince Edward is once again urging the community to support the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s, which takes place on May 24^th & 25^th, 2025. This year, Walk events will take place locally in Belleville, Quinte West, and Prince Edward County (on Saturday, May 24^th) and in Tweed, Bancroft and Brighton (on Sunday, May 25^th).  Registration for all events begins at 9:30 am, and the Walks take place from 10 am – 12 pm. This is the inaugural year for the Brighton Walk event.  One weekend, one cause, six communities! Anyone can register and fundraise online at www.walkforalzheimers.ca. As always, ALL funds raised stay local.

Each year, local Walk events raise crucial funds that allow ASHPE to offer free programs and services to meet the needs of people living with dementia and their caregivers in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties and Brighton. The number of people in Canada living with dementia is rising rapidly. By the year 2050, more than 1.7 million people will be living with dementia in Canada. As the number of people affected by dementia increases, so does the need for services. This year, we hope to raise over $90,000 for local programs and services.

 “The funds raised during these events ensure we can continue to serve all those affected by memory loss as dementia numbers continue to increase in our region and across the country. Locally, we receive less than 47% of our budget from the Ministry of Health, meaning we rely on the support of our community to continue providing our programs”, says, Angela Meraw, Executive Director, ASHPE.

There are several ways local residents can take part in their local IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s and make a positive difference in the lives of people living with dementia and their families:

 “IG is proud to support the Alzheimer Society – we all know someone who has been affected by dementia and are familiar with the emotional and financial impact it can have,” said Jason Stapley, Regional Vice President, IG Wealth Management. “This year, our team will be walking for those who are in the Belleville & surrounding area who are living with the disease, their families, and their caregivers. Each year IG employees and advisors across the country look forward to the Walk. It’s a great way to help support the communities in which we live and work.”
