Position Description
Title: Manager of Education and Community Outreach
Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer – Clinical Services
Supervises: Public Education Coordinator (1), Early-Stage Wellness Coordinator (1), Intake Coordinator (1), and Coordinator of Volunteer Programs (1)
Salary Range: $67,000- $70,000 annually
Benefits: Extended Health and Dental Benefits, Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan
Hours of Work: Office hours are Monday-Friday 8:30-4:30 pm Full-time, 40 hours/week; Paid lunch (flexibility required for evenings/weekend education sessions)
Vacation: 3 Weeks paid vacation (Pro-rated to calendar year)
The Manager of Education and Community Outreach supports the operational implementation and day-to-day oversight of a diverse portfolio of education, early-stage wellness, support groups, and community-based programs. Under the strategic guidance of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Clinical Services, this working manager role involves close collaboration to balance direct service delivery with cross-departmental leadership. The Manager ensures that programs are delivered effectively and consistently, aligning with organizational standards and strategic priorities.
This role will contribute directly to delivering educational programs to retirement facilities to enhance their ability to support resident wellbeing.
The Manager will supervise Coordinators across education, wellness, volunteer services, and intake and provide logistical oversight for group programs including Brain Wave Cafés and Support Groups. The role will manage venue scheduling, facilitator coordination, and budget support.
As an AlayaCare superuser, the Manager also supports internal reporting and documentation systems. Additional responsibilities include supporting student placements, overseeing budgets related to subsidy programs (e.g., Taxi, Incontinence, MedicAlert), and contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives across programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Direct Program Delivery & Public Education
- Lead specialized dementia education sessions in retirement homes, ensuring high-quality, standardized delivery aligned with organizational messaging and best practices.
- As required, act as a subject matter expert in dementia-informed practice to deliver education to external audiences including community agencies, student groups, and service providers,
- As required, provide backup education support across facilitator roles and programs
- Represent the organization at learning fairs, outreach events, and stakeholder engagements in support of public awareness and community partnerships, as needed.
Education Oversight
- Supervise the Public Education Coordinator and provide leadership for the delivery and enhancement of education to the general public, the Finding Your Way program and the Aging and Dementia Simulation (ADS). .
- Ensure MSAA education requirements are met through high-quality, diverse educational offerings that reflect the needs of clients, care partners, and the community.
- Coordinate with the Public Education Coordinator on scheduling, reporting, and content development to ensure consistency and alignment with strategic education priorities.
- Pull and analyze education program data, support quarterly reporting, and ensure accurate documentation in AlayaCare.
Early-Stage Wellness Oversight
- Supervise the Early Stage Wellness Coordinator and provide leadership for the suite of programs including Minds in Motion, the Wellness Day Program, Power of Music, Beyond Words Learning Series, ROPES, and the Client Advisory Group.
- Ensure person-centered programming is available across Niagara for individuals living with dementia and their care partners, reflecting diverse needs and promoting engagement, wellness, and inclusion.
- Provide administrative oversight and reporting for group programs under this portfolio, including Minds in Motion and Dementia Friendly Communities (DFC) data collection and evaluation.
- In collaboration with the COO, oversee art programs, exercise programs, and other social recreation initiatives connected to the Early Stage and Volunteer teams.
Volunteer Service Oversight
- Supervise the Volunteer Coordinator and provide strategic leadership in meeting MSAA requirements through innovative volunteer program development.
- Provide oversight for existing volunteer programs such as Friendly Visiting, TeleCare, and MVP while supporting expansion into new areas of need.
- Fulfill MSAA obligations while driving strategic initiatives to go beyond the baseline.
- Represent the organization at local volunteer events and community outreach initiatives, as needed.
Intake & Administrative Program Oversight
- Supervise the Intake Coordinator and provide oversight for timely intake processes and administrative responsibilities across the Taxi, Incontinence, and Medic Alert subsidy programs.
- Monitor related budgets, inventory, and reporting to ensure program integrity and financial accountability.
- Provide oversight for the tracking and monitoring of staff professional development budgets, including approval processes and reconciliation.
- Provide ongoing administrative oversight for AlayaCare documentation related to supervised staff and their programs.
- Serve as an AlayaCare EMR superuser alongside the COO, offering troubleshooting and workflow support to team members.
Brain Wave Café & Support Group Oversight
- Collaborate with the COO to oversee the Brain Wave Café and Support Group programs, including venue scheduling, facilitator coordination, troubleshooting, and budget oversight.
- Facilitate quarterly Brain Wave Café and bi-yearly Support Group facilitator meetings to support consistency, communication, and quality improvement.
- Monitor group trends, emerging needs, and opportunities to establish new or renewed groups in response to community demand.
Student Engagement
- Collaborate with the COO and Coordinator of Volunteer Programs to plan, onboard, and supervise student placements across multiple departments.
- Coordinate learning plans, academic evaluations, and liaison with educational institutions.
- Ensure the student program maintains high standards for supervision and learning while supporting the organization’s reputation and future workforce development.
- Contribute to student education in dementia services, public outreach, and community programming.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
- Provide leadership for the organization’s DEI portfolio, collaborating with the COO and management team to embed inclusive practices across programming and service delivery.
- Act as a resource for culturally safe, equity-informed approaches and support their integration into education, wellness, and volunteer services.
- Support or lead staff DEI training initiatives and foster inclusive content across public-facing programs.
- Represent ASNR on DEI Committees and liaise with equity-deserving community partners to strengthen representation in planning and evaluation.
Management Administration & Operational Support
- Serve as a member of the management team and provide operational and facility support as needed.
- Provide day-to-day operational support to staff within the education, wellness, volunteer, and intake portfolios, including coordinating schedules, managing leave and vacation requests, and ensuring program coverage.
- Track and review team member time allocations across programs to support accurate reporting, workflow planning, and service alignment.
- Liaise with the COO to ensure consistency in team processes, compliance with internal policies, and timely response to staffing needs.
- Support onboarding and orientation of new staff within assigned program areas.
General
- Attend relevant team meetings

- Assume other functions as may be assigned by management
Qualifications
- Regulated health professional designation required
- Diploma or degree in health, social services, adult education, or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years experience in health or social service programming, education, or community engagement.
- Knowledge of dementia and experience delivering public education.
- Management experience supervising staff or volunteers.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance required.

Working Environment
- Everyday risks or discomforts may require safety precautions typical of an office environment, i.e. use of safe work practices with office equipment, proper ergonomics, transporting of program material and required technology equipment, etc.
- Physical demands are representative of the role where there may be extended periods of visual concentration; extended periods of sitting in a stationary position or standing delivering various program sessions
- Equipment is common to an office work environment; such as but not limited to a computer, printer, photocopier, multi-line telephone, fax machine, projector, elevator
- Required to carry out work activities outside of the office environment and will require the use of a vehicle
- Expected to work outside of regular business hours when necessary
