What is Art Expressions?
Art Expressions is a painting and media program that lets individuals living with dementia and their care partners enjoy an activity that:
- provides the opportunity for social engagement,
- improves quality of life, and
- increases informal supports through connection with other participants.
This painting class is an expressive therapy and social group that offers an opportunity for individuals living with dementia to have personal choice and control.
No previous experience is necessary! Each session will guide participants to create a specific painting theme.
Each participant will be encouraged to choose their own:
- canvas size,
- tools,
- paint colours, and
- textures to work with.
Who can participate?
- Individuals living with dementia and care partners are both welcome to attend
- Individuals must have the ability to follow step-by-step instructions (again, no art skills required)
- Participants must pay a small fee ($10 per person/per session)
Participants must be able to engage independently in the program or be accompanied by a care partner. Please note this is not a respite program and staff are unable to provide personal care support, physical or medical assistance, and are not able to prevent participants from leaving the venue. If you require respite services contact our office at 905-687-3914 and we will be happy to help you explore your options.
