Who We Are

We are a group made up of persons living with dementia or cognitive impairment that share our lived experiences, knowledge, and ideas to guide the work of the Alzheimer Society.

Our Vision

Our vision is a community where persons living with cognitive impairment or dementia are fully engaged in the process of developing, implementing, and evaluating the programs and services offered through the Alzheimer Society. To bring that vision into reality, we believe in working with and not for persons living with cognitive impairment or dementia by providing opportunities for collective engagement and participation. We also strive to contribute in a meaningful way in developing a greater understanding and awareness of living with dementia.

Words from our Members

"It feels like home when you come to the Alzheimer Society. You can count on people, you are understood and there are people just like me. You feel listened to and loved. It is not a building, but a place with a soul and a heart."

"I learn so much from my friends on the Advisory Group. I love listening to everyone. When you leave there, you always learn more about dementia."

"We are all stronger when we stand together and help each other."

Advisory Spotlights

We have been shining a spotlight on the individuals who make up our wonderful Advisory Group who use their lived experiences with dementia or cognitive change to shape the work we do at the Alzheimer Society.

Adrian Gordon - Advisory Spotlight

Adrian has been part of the Alzheimer Society Niagara Region community for just over a year. He and his wife Frenda first got involved with the Early Stage Programs through the Beyond Words Learning Series where they connected with a group of peers who supported each other through the changes and challenges of living with and caring for someone with memory change.
