Early Stage Programs

Early-Stage Programs

We have a range of early-stage programs for people living with dementia and their care partners. We provide an inclusive community environment where persons with early-stage dementia and their family partners in care can strengthen their inner resources and sense of well-being through opportunities to share experiences, benefit from mutual support and participate in the planning, development and evaluation of programs designed specifically to meet their identified needs and wishes. Anyone who is interested in participating in one of our early-stage programs is invited to make a referral through our First Link® Program to discuss eligibility and program criteria.

"Beyond Words" Early-Stage Learning Series

An eight-week learning series for persons in the early stages of dementia, along with their care partners. Educational content is linked specifically to the group’s experiences and open dialogue and communication is encouraged. Because the experiences of people with dementia and care partners are interrelated yet unique, our learning series provides the opportunity for these groups to meet together and separately with their peers.

Wellness Activity Program

The Early-Stage Wellness Activity Program is an opportunity for persons in the early-stages of dementia to engage in meaningful, fun, and health promoting activities in a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment. This program is unique in that there is an opportunity for persons with early-stage dementia to participate in the planning, development and evaluation of the program.

R.E.B.E.L. Group

A monthly gathering for those with dementia and their care partners who have completed the “Beyond Words” Early-Stage Learning Series and/or Wellness Activity Program which allows them to remain connected to each other and the Alzheimer Society. This program provides further opportunity to socialize, build network of support, and access education and information according to the groups’ expressed interests and needs. Together the group affirms that even with a diagnosis of dementia there is joy and meaning in life. Participants are provided with a monthly newsletter and yearly video presentation of all their activities.

'Connections' Early-Stage Newsletter

Connections is a quarterly newsletter for persons with early-stage dementia developed in response to their request for information that reflects their identified needs, goals and interests.  The newsletter provides opportunities to connect with one another, share ideas, strategies and perspectives.  Persons with early-stage dementia are encouraged to contribute to the newsletter.  You can check out our archive for past issues.

*Please note: When people move beyond the early stages of dementia, we formulate a plan together with them and their care partners to support their ongoing participation in family and community life.
