Introducing Samantha Morrison
Meet Samantha, our new Dementia Friendly Communities Lead at the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.

Introduction to Samantha Morrison – Dementia Friendly Communities Lead
I’m very excited to introduce myself. My name is Samantha Morrison, and in March of 2025 I joined the team at the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia as the Dementia Friendly Communities Lead. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, I got my start in community work at the age of 16 when I began working for my local CAP (Community Access Program) Site Association training older adults on how to use technology in my local library. This job started me on the path to studying sociology at Saint Mary’s University and devoting the past four years (2021 – 2025) to working as the program coordinator for Chebucto Links, a Halifax based seniors non-profit.
I’m very enthusiastic about community – I think the greatest joys of being a person are rooted in our connections to each other and dementia should not limit peoples access to these joys. In my experience working in community, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that being present in community can have on people's mental and physical wellbeing. During the Covid-19 pandemic, I was involved in countless conversations about the importance of staying connected and reducing isolation. While we are no longer experiencing lockdowns, it's still just as important today.
This is why I was so excited to enter the role of Dementia Friendly Communities Lead at the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia. People living with dementia and their care partners can face many barriers and challenges to actively and meaningfully engaging in their communities, but that does not have to be the case. We know that isolation negatively impacts people living with dementia. My aim is to help foster a Nova Scotia where that experience is the exception – not the rule.
I need your help! Please join me in making Nova Scotia a dementia friendly province. Even small steps can have major impacts. Call or email me at 902-332-0977 or [email protected] today to get started. I’m excited to connect with you!
Keep an eye out for future posts about dementia friendly communities. I hope you'll join me on this journey!
