DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION: BUILD TRUST; VALUE DIFFERENCE; INNOVATE WITHOUT BARRIERS
Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias do NOT discriminate, and ASNS is committed to supporting ALL Nova Scotians on the dementia journey.
ASNS is committed to progressing diversity, equity and inclusion as core elements of the work that we do. We are in the process of finalizing our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategy and look forward to releasing the plan in the second half of the 2021/2022 fiscal year.
The ASNS Diversity, Equity & Inclusion plan will support and encourage ASNS staff, operational practices, volunteers and donors on the journey towards deeper understandings and practices connected to equity and inclusion. We will engage all stakeholders and encourage courageous conversations and reflections to deepen critical understandings around the intersectionality of dementia, identity and our work at ASNS. We will create opportunities for learning, policy development, program planning and organizational change through this equity and inclusion lens. This plan has been developed for the fiscal year 2021-22; we however recognize that this work is part of lifelong learning and does not have an end date. We will build on the 2021-22 plan in an iterative manner and continue to provide opportunities for reflection and development in the years to come.
ASNS is engaging in this process as a mission priority; if we do not, we risk underserving those communities that may need us most. The goal of this plan is to ensure that ALL Nova Scotians are supported on their dementia journey in ways that acknowledge and honour the diversity of our province and ensure services are community-focused and culturally appropriate.
A sincere thank you to organizations that have supported and guided our work through consult and ongoing collaboration:
