NVW 2021: Leadership Group of Caregivers make change for other families on the dementia journey

This National Volunteer Week, we are showcasing some of the integral roles volunteers play in our organization. From April 18 – 24, 2021, follow @AlzheimerBC on social media to learn more about these roles and help us recognize our incredible volunteers.

Passionate volunteers on the Alzheimer Society of B.C.’s Leadership Group of Care givers provide expertise and accountability to the Society’s work through sharing their lived experiences of caregiving. Their contributions help the Society establish informed responses to community-based challenges people affected by dementia face. They continue to be instrumental in much of the Society’s work, from advising the Society on various programs, projects and resources, supporting advocacy activities such as our Legislative Lunch and playing an instrumental role in the development of dementia-friendly communities initiatives. Our Leadership Group meetings have continued throughout the pandemic virtually, and we are so grateful for the support of these dedicated advocates.

Naomi Mison, Leadership Group of Caregivers:

“I volunteer because I want to my community a better, more inclusive place. Moreover, helping others makes me feel happier and healthier. I joined the Leadership Group of Caregivers because I wanted to channel my expertise as a carer to ensure the Society's efforts have tangible benefits for those with lived experience. I enjoy being surrounded by like-minded individuals and passionately advocating for improved quality of care for people living with dementia and their caregivers.”
