Research recruitment support

Connecting people with lived experience with research opportunities.

A young woman and an older man sit together at a table, both looking at a laptop screen. The woman is typing on the laptop while the man observes attentively.

The Alzheimer Society of B.C. believes in the meaningful engagement and participation of people living with dementia and their care partners in research. We offer support with research recruitment via several channels, including our social media platforms, lived experience partner bulletin and monthly digital newsletters.

To be eligible for support with research recruitment, the following requirements must be met:

  • The goals of the research should align with the Alzheimer Society of B.C.'s mission and vision.
  • The principal investigator must be affiliated with an academic institution.
  • Ethics approval must be granted by a recognized research ethics board (REB) or an institutional review board (IRB).

Please note, clinical trials or studies conducted by for-profit enterprises or for marketing research are not eligible for recruitment support.

To request support, please complete the following form.

Research recruitment poster recommendations

Researchers may utilize posters to facilitate recruitment efforts. It is worthwhile to ensure recruitment posters incorporate dementia-friendly design principles to make it easier for people affected by dementia to understand and express interest in research opportunities. While criteria may vary at each institution, we hope that the following suggestions help to enhance your recruitment efforts:

  • Clear and simple layout: Use a clean and uncluttered layout with ample white space to avoid overwhelming the reader.
  • Large readable text: Use a large, clear font with high contrast between text and background to enhance readability.
  • Short and clear messaging: Keep text concise and to the point. Use simple language and avoid jargon or technical terms. A common readability guideline for health education materials is an eighth grade reading level.
  • Remuneration information: If the research opportunity offers compensation for participation, specify details clearly.

For more guidance on dementia-friendly and inclusive recruitment materials, view a sample poster here or consult our Dementia-friendly research page.

We also encourage researchers visit:

  • The Alzheimer Society Research Portal: This online portal connects researchers from across Canada with people looking to participate in dementia research.
  • REACH BC: A non-profit initiative that offers researchers in British Columbia a reliable health research platform. Based on self-enrolment and health-related information, volunteers across BC are matched with appropriate research opportunities.
