Dementia workshop for caregivers
This September, the Alzheimer Society of B.C. is coming to Prince George and inviting caregivers to take part in a series of free workshops offering practical tools, emotional support and strategies for caring for a person living with dementia.

Family caregiver series
Tuesday, September 23, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
An education series for family members who are caring for a person living with dementia.
Key topics include:
- Understanding dementia: Learn about the different types and stages of dementia, how the disease progresses and common myths.
- Changes in communication: Discover how dementia affects a person’s ability to communicate over time and explore strategies to adapt and cope with these changes.
- Changes in behaviour: Explore various changes in behaviours caused by dementia and learn practical strategies for responding in supportive ways.
- Building caregiver resilience: Learn about strategies to positively manage stress and prioritize self-care to cope with the changes brought by dementia.
- Personal planning: Early in the dementia journey it can feel daunting to think about what lies ahead – but it’s important to plan now, before communication and decision-making become more challenging. Learn how to begin planning early for important legal, health-care and financial decisions.

Transitions along the dementia journey
Wednesday, September 24, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- This facilitated discussion will explore the process of change and how this affects feelings of grief and loss.
- We will discuss the complex ways in which care needs and emotions are changing for you and the for the person you are caring for.
- Hear from other caregivers and learn strategies for coping along the dementia journey.

Transition to long-term care and adjusting to the new environment
Thursday, September 25, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
- Making the transition into long-term care can be challenging for both the person living with dementia and the caregiver.
- We will discuss how to access long-term care including eligibility requirements, factors to consider when planning a move, preparing for moving day and tips for easing the transition.
For caregivers only.

All sessions will be held at Canfor Leisure Pool (670 Quebec Street, Prince George) and are open to caregivers only.
